We have an extra special interview with Sonja Overhiser, co-founder of Indy Women in Food and one-half of A Couple Cooks. She’s about to release her second cookbook, A Couple Cooks: 100 Recipes to Cook Together, available to order NOW—visit acouplecooks.com/cookbook! We may even have a giveaway 😉 But first, let’s chat with Sonja!
Indy Women in Food: How long has A Couple Cooks been around?
Sonja: My husband Alex and I started acouplecooks.com in 2010, before Instagram or Pinterest! It began as a hobby, taking pictures of food and posting them. Over time, it grew into a business. In 2017, we both left our jobs to pursue the recipe website full-time! It’s been a dream to work together as entrepreneurs, combining our skills and passions.
Indy Women in Food: Tell us how Indy Women in Food started.
Sonja: In 2017, Kerry Diamond, founder of Cherry Bomb, hosted an event in Indy for women in food and that’s where I met Ashley Brooks. The energy and instant community were incredible. Over coffee, we decided this momentum had to continue—and Indy Women in Food was born.
Indy Women in Food: Congrats on the second cookbook! What does this one mean to you?
Sonja: This book is my heart and soul on paper! It’s 100 of our favorite new recipes in a big, beautiful, giftable volume. It represents how we think about food, and now people all over the world get to cook these recipes!
My favorite part is the theme of togetherness. I love encouraging fun moments in the kitchen with others, since that’s how Alex and I learned to cook. Hearing from people who love the recipes and cook them with loved ones means everything.
Indy Women in Food: Should we do a giveaway for our followers?
Sonja: Yes! We’d love for you to preorder the book now—it’s SO helpful for authors to gain momentum. It’s available anywhere books are sold, or visit acouplecooks.com/cookbook.
Giveaway Details: We’re giving away a SIGNED copy of the A Couple Cooks cookbook!
